konferencia ligos6One of the founding figures of the Catholic University in Ruzomberok and its Department of Slovak Language and Literature, professor Milan Ligos, celebrates his 70th birthday this year. To honor his outstanding work and achievement the department organized an international conference with participants from Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland.


The event took place on June 19, 2019 at the Faculty of Arts and Letters. The keynote talks were delivered by Jozef Mlacek and Ludmila Liptakova and consequently, there were several talks presented by his colleagues both from the department in Ruzomberok and from the universities in Bratislava, Banska Bystrica, Presov, Zilina, Ostrava, Bielsko-Biala etc.


Milan Ligos is a renowned scholar in the area of didactics of the Slovak language as a mother tongue. He has been teaching at the Catholic University in Ruzomberok from its beginning and over the years he had taught hundreds of students and prepared them to become skillful teachers of the Slovak language. He published several books and a number of papers including, for instance, Motivational and Spiritual Dimensions of Teaching of the Slovak Language and The Foundations of the Linguistic and Literary Education I. and II. His latest work covering the area of Teaching the Slovak as a Mother Tongue in the Past, Present and Future should be published this year.
