Our students again at the MedGames

Students of the 2nd and 3rd years of the bachelor's study nursing program at the Faculty of Health of the Catholic University in Ružomberok, Natália Klepáčová, Michaela Kmeťová, Patrícia Filipová and Terézia Hanobíková, actively participated in the 7th year of the international competition for students of general medicine and nursing MedGames 2022, where they competed in teams of two . The competition was held from 21st October to 22nd October 2022 under the auspices of the Martin University Hospital, the Jessenius Faculty of Medicine of the UC (JFM UC) in Martin and the Martin Medical Club. During the first day, students had the opportunity to attend interesting workshops at the JFM UC in Martin, after which the competition was started with the first block. At individual positions, the participants expanded their knowledge about infusion pumps, ostomies, suture removal, patient education before surgery and more. In the evening, a simulated mass casualty took place with patient triage practice. The second and third competition block continued on the grounds of the Martin University Hospital, during which the students solved various tasks and case studies at 15 positions (for example collapse first aid, receiving a call on the emergency line, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, stoma care, blood collection, introduction of peripheral intravenous cannulas, use of an infusion pump, preparation of a sterile table, assistance with spinal anesthesia, communication during a suicide attempt, removal of sutures, coiling of a woman, including injection and wound dressing). 3rd year students Patrícia Filipová and Terézia Hanobíková finished in a beautiful 4th place out of 19 teams (38 students). The students evaluated their participation in the competition as follows: "We verified and deepened the acquired knowledge and skills in specific situations, we learned to make quick decisions and work in a team. It was a very good experience. When we still have the opportunity to participate in such an activity, we will go again. We definitely recommend it to others." We sincerely congratulate the students!
